Nottinghamshire has a long record of organised beekeeping: the Nottinghamshire Beekeepers' Association was formed in 1884 and still holds an annual honey show, with classes for honey, wax and mead. Its training apiaries show where the county's bees work, from the old walled garden at Woodthorpe Grange Park in Nottingham and an allotment in Hucknall to Brackenhurst on the edge of Southwell.
Local honey here is often sold by place rather than by flower. Buzzy Honey Bee labels its raw honey with the village the bees foraged around, such as Strelley or Whatton, and GoldenDrops keeps its apiary at East Bridgford. Southwell has a honey shop in Bull Yard run by Bee Queen, which keeps hives across the county. Smaller beekeepers such as Easthorpe Honey in Southwell and Farnsfield Honey sell a few jars at a time, so contact them before calling.
