Organised beekeeping in Staffordshire goes back to 28 April 1883, when the Staffordshire County Beekeepers' Association first met at the Swan Hotel in Stafford. Its successor, South Staffordshire & District Beekeepers Association, covers Stafford, Stone, Lichfield and Wolverhampton and keeps a teaching apiary in the grounds of the National Trust's Shugborough estate.
Cannock Chase gives the county a heather honey: Heath Cottage Honey, a family producer at Weston near Stafford, sells Cannock Chase heather honey alongside spring hedgerow and summer wildflower honeys from a roadside stand at the cottage. Perrys of Eccleshall, a master butcher trading since 1927, sells honey from working hives close to its shop near Eccleshall Castle. Near Rugeley, Stuart Roberts is a BBKA Master Beekeeper who breeds his own local bees and sells bees and queens as well as honey, and Church View Honey in Gnosall is a hobby beekeeper with a few jars each year; ask by email what is available.
