Moray's beekeepers are well placed for Scottish heather honey. Moray Beekeepers' Association makes an annual trip to the heather, visiting a heather stance in Glenrinnes near Dufftown, and its advice notes suggest putting cut-comb supers on strong colonies towards the end of July to give the bees a quick start at the heather. The association also runs its own honey show.
Several producers here sell through local shops. The Moray Honey Company, based near Forres with apiaries across Morayshire and into the Highlands, sells raw, soft-set and Scottish heather honey online and through Macbeth's in Forres. Thorabella Buffalo Farm at Dallas sells honey from its own bees in its farm shop, alongside buffalo meat, eggs and milk. Alves Apiary near Elgin, Glenrinnes Honey Farm at Dufftown and Grieves Cottage Honey at Duffus are smaller local producers.
