Local Honey Royal DeesideRoyal Deeside Honey & BeesVarious Apiaries, Royal Deeside, AB35 5TBHoney from Royal Deeside Honey & Bees, Sarah Leahy's family business with apiaries across Royal Deeside between Glen Dye and Birkhall. Sarah runs it with occasional help from her four sons; it began with a few hives at home and now runs to around 80 colonies, and they sell only honey from their own bees.

The colonies are native Scottish dark bees (Apis mellifera mellifera) or locally bred bees suited to the short season and hard winters, kept going through their own queen rearing; they never import bees. Sarah is a mentor with the Tarland Bee Group and a trustee of the Scottish Native Honey Bee Society, and her youngest son Martin was named International Young Beekeeper of the World in 2019.

What's in the jar depends on the season and the weather, running from mild oilseed rape honey to strong ling heather honey, with multifloral blossom honeys in between; nothing is added, and the honey is only gently warmed so it can be jarred. They also sell cut comb and whole combs, candles made from their own beeswax, and personalised jars and candles for weddings and corporate gifts. Beekeepers who have done a beginners' course can buy locally mated queens, overwintered nucleus colonies and full colonies.

The honey is stocked in shops across Deeside and Aberdeenshire, from HM Sheridan in Ballater and Banchory, the Rothesay Rooms in Ballater, Courie Courie in Aboyne and Balnault Farm Shop at Crathie to Replenish in Stonehaven, St Machar's Cathedral in Aberdeen and Dean's of Huntly.
