Much of Berkshire's listed honey comes from the Thames Valley and the countryside around Windsor and Maidenhead. Cooper's Honey & Bees has produced honey since 1982 from about 50 colonies around Maidenhead, Bray, Temple, Burnham, Paley Street and Windsor Great Park, and Proverbs 16:24 Honey at Fifield has bees on the edge of Windsor Great Park, its honey often carrying notes of lime and blackberry. Further south, Dower House Honey at Swallowfield has four generations of family beekeeping behind it, and in the west Hillside House Honey sells at Newbury Market.
Local beekeeping associations are closely involved: Jim Cooper of Cooper's has chaired the Slough, Windsor & Maidenhead Beekeepers Society and been its honey show secretary, and Munday Honey belongs to the Wokingham and District association.
Most honey here is sold direct – online, collected by arrangement, at markets or by local delivery; Proverbs 16:24 even delivers on foot or by bike to homes near its hives.
