Derby's listed beekeepers keep their bees in the countryside around the city. Jaba the Bearded Beekeeper, run by third-generation beekeeper Szymon Jablonski, has apiaries at Grangewood near Burton upon Trent, beside the Toyota plant by the A38 and at Morley Hayes golf course, and sells bee bread, propolis and UK-bred queens as well as raw honey. Little Friends' Honey names its honeys after where they were made: a creamed spring honey from the rapeseed fields at Wood Farm, Ticknall, a Ticknall summer honey gathered while the lime trees flowered, Mickleover spring and summer honeys and a heather honey from Hathersage.
Littleover Apiaries, on Shaftesbury Street, is a different kind of business: a large honey packer whose range includes Manuka and other honeys from abroad as well as English honey, so check the label if you want honey from Derbyshire.
