Ringwood sits at the western end of the New Forest, and both listings here sell New Forest honey. As they explain it, the light, often poor soils around Ringwood spare the bees large monocultures, so they work wildflowers, trees, shrubs and gardens instead; the drier heaths give late-summer ling and bell heather honey, and in the mild south-coast climate even the cabbage palms in local gardens can be heard buzzing when they flower.
Little Timbers, on Eastfield Lane, sells New Forest honey from local beekeepers, along with beeswax, eggs and shortbread, from a small shop on site and at the Ringwood and Christchurch markets. Both are small, so it is worth contacting them before calling. New Forest & District Beekeepers, based at Lyndhurst, also point buyers to members' honey across the Forest.
