Angus runs from the Tay coast up into the Angus Glens, and its beekeepers use both. Tay Bees, with apiaries on farms and estates around the Tay and the Earn, sends its bees to the Angus glens for the late-summer heather and sells heather honey in the comb when the season allows. The glens are heather ground for other beekeepers too: Arbuckle's, whose farm shop is at Invergowrie on the Perthshire side of Dundee, sells raw heather honeycomb from its own hives there. In Montrose, Dani's Bees names each single-origin honey after the apiary where it was made, including a heather honey, and has won awards at the Royal Highland Show.
Farmers' markets are a good place to buy: Tay Bees trades at the monthly Angus farmers' markets in Montrose and Forfar. Dalmore Croft, a 12-acre smallholding at Barry near Carnoustie, sells its honey with eggs, meat and apples from the farm. The East of Scotland Beekeepers Association supports beekeepers across Tayside.
