Blairgowrie's producers are two of Perthshire's biggest beekeeping businesses. Heather Hills Farm, at Bridge of Cally, is a family business established in 1945, with around 1,300 hives across Perthshire and Deeside on highland moorland and in fruit-growing areas. Its range includes raw Scottish heather honey alongside other honeys and preserves made with local Perthshire fruit, sold online and through retailers.
Scarletts, based near Meigle, was set up in 1999 by third-generation beekeeper Andrew Scarlett and runs up to 900 hives on farms in Perthshire, Angus and Fife, which work lowland flowers and soft fruit before moving to the heather glens in mid-July. It also packs honeys from around the world for other companies, so look for its own Scottish Blossom and Heather honeys if you want local honey.
