Caldicot's best-known honey business makes mead. Hive Mind Mead & Brew Co was started in 2018 by brothers Matt and Kit Newell as Wye Valley Meadery. They look after hives at more than 20 sites in the lower Wye Valley, many stocked with bees rescued from roofs and building sites nearby. All their honey goes into their meads, honey beers and soft drinks, and jars of raw, unblended Wye Valley honey are sold online. The brewery on Castle Way opens for a monthly taproom night, and the brothers run half-day beekeeping courses at Caldicot Castle.
Welsh Blooms Honey is a small-scale beekeeper at Carrow Hill whose bees work local wildflower meadows and fruit orchards. Its wildflower honey can be bought from The Tack Room by arrangement.
