Local Honey TruroHolywell Apiaries3 Holywell Road, Playing Place, Truro, TR3 6EPCold-extracted Cornish wildflower honey from Holywell Apiaries, a small beekeeping business at Playing Place near Truro. It began with a single hive at the bottom of the garden.

The bees – a mix of local dark Cornish bees and Buckfast bees, selected for temperament and health – are kept on farms across Cornwall, including sites in the Carnon Valley, on the edge of Truro, at Seven Acre Farm near Kea Church and at Farms Common, which lies on a wildflower-rich B-Line. Honey from each apiary is extracted and jarred separately, and the first two digits of the best-before number on the base of the jar tell you which site it came from. It is minimally filtered, so it keeps its pollen, and the flavour shifts with the season and the site.

You can order honey online for delivery, or buy it at Seven Acre Farm, The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Perran-ar-worthal fruit and veg stall. Honey also comes in bulk buckets for cooking or mead making. From their own wax they hand-pour pure beeswax candles and tealights and make beeswax bars, and they sell six-frame nucleus colonies to other beekeepers. Shops interested in stocking the honey can ask about wholesale.Buying from this listingThis listing reports an outlet at Holywell Apiaries.
