Somerset honey comes from both its wetlands and its hills. Sedgemoor Honey Farm near Taunton, with around 300 colonies in 20 apiaries, keeps bees from the Quantocks and the Blackdowns across Sedgemoor to the south of the county, and in summer moves many hives with the nectar flows – including up to the heather on Exmoor – so its range includes heather and borage honeys. On the Levels at Chedzoy, Land Girl Apiaries works with local landowners to site hives along farm hedgerows, and its honey can be traced to the individual colony.
The Somerset Beekeepers' Association's county honey show is run by its Taunton branch within the Taunton Flower Show, and the association has a stand in the Bees and Honey Marquee at the Royal Bath & West Show, where it also stewards the honey show. It keeps a map of members selling local honey.
Most Somerset honey is bought through shops and markets rather than at the hive. Sedgemoor Honey Farm has no farm shop and sells through local stockists, from farm shops and farmers' markets to National Trust shops; Land Girl offers click and collect; and Cedrics at Misterton, near Crewkerne, sells local raw honey for collection.
