Taunton is home to one of Somerset's larger bee farms. Sedgemoor Honey Farm, on the outskirts of the town at Creech St Michael, has grown from two hives in a garden in the mid-1970s to around 300 colonies in 20 apiaries, still run largely single-handed by Chris Harries. Its bees forage the fields and hedgerows of the hills and levels around Taunton, and some hives are moved in summer, including up to the Exmoor heather, so the range runs from runny and set honey to heather, borage and cut comb. There is no shop at the farm; instead its jars reach shops, markets and National Trust outlets around the area, and the farm will tell you your nearest stockist. WB Honey, a family business at Dobles Farm north-west of the town, has kept bees for three generations and sells honey from its own hives alongside bees and nucs.
Taunton is also where Somerset's county honey show takes place, run by the Taunton branch of the Somerset Beekeepers' Association as part of the Taunton Flower Show.
