Dumfries and Galloway honey comes from hill, farmland, loch shore and coast. Around Castle Douglas, Glenkens & Dee Honey Co. has apiaries from the Glenkens hills down Loch Ken to the Solway shore, and sells summer wildflower and soft-set honey. At Ernespie Farm, a family dairy farm on the edge of Castle Douglas, Brian McMicken looks after 16 hives – some can be seen near the farm's outdoor play area – and the honey and honeycomb are sold in the farm's gift shop.
Further west, the Western Galloway Beekeepers' Association, formed in 1935 and covering the area from Girvan to Newton Stewart, including the Machars and the Rhins, holds an annual honey show. Its members sell surplus honey from the doorstep after the late-spring and main summer harvests, and heather honey is usually the last honey of the season.
