Gwynedd's honey comes from mountain, coast and farmland. The Snowdonia Honey Co., near Caernarfon, keeps more than 120 hives and sells Pure Snowdonia Heather honey from ling heather on the mountainsides, alongside Welsh wildflower and spring honeys from lowland and coastal apiaries. Trees and Bees, between Cadair Idris and the Mawddach Estuary at Arthog, also makes a heather honey, and on the Llŷn Peninsula Mêl Llŷn sells its honey by season – a light spring honey, a summer wildflower and a limited autumn honey.
There are good places to buy in person. Snowdon Honey Farm & Winery has a shop on the High Street in Llanberis, at the foot of Snowdon, selling local honey with Welsh meads, wines and beeswax products. Mêl Llŷn is stocked in shops, cafés and delis around the peninsula, from Pwllheli and Abersoch to Criccieth, and Trees and Bees sells at farmers' markets and shows and through the Celf Aran Arts craft co-operative in Dolgellau.
