Gateshead's best-known spot for local honey is Saltwell Park. The Tyneside Beekeepers Association, a volunteer-run club, keeps its club apiary in the park. Members are there most weekends in spring and summer, weather permitting, selling honey, beeswax and candles to fund the club. They also offer taster sessions: you borrow a bee suit (children's sizes too) and join a hive inspection.
