Local Honey CrickhowellLlangattock ApiariesLower Lodge, Llangattock, Crickhowell, NP8 1HNLlangattock Apiaries is run by Anthony Smith, a member of both the British Beekeepers' Association and the Bee Farmers' Association, based at Lower Lodge, Llangattock, near Crickhowell in Brecknockshire. Anthony first developed an interest in bees while living in South Africa, started his first hive in the Middle East, and moved to Llangattock in 2002 to establish the apiary along the banks of the River Usk, on the slopes of the Black Mountains in South East Wales. All of Anthony's bees are of the Buckfast breed, known for high honey yield and mild temperament. He manages more than 300 hives across sites in Monmouthshire and Herefordshire in addition to his home location. The honey is raw and unpasteurised, harvested by spinning wooden frames to extract honey which is strained through fine gauze into sterile containers. The surrounding environment has no commercial crops nearby, reducing the risk of pesticides and herbicides. No additives are used post-harvest. The product range is extensive, including runny honey, soft set honey, heather honey, sunflower honey, lime honey, honeycomb, infused honeys (orange, lavender, cinnamon, ginger, lemon, chilli, sage, vanilla, truffle, raspberry), bee pollen, bee bread, royal jelly with propolis, beeswax candles, soaps, skincare, and gift sets.
